Lying awake at 3AM has its benefits

I'm not one for giving a damn about the new year. No end of year lists or reflections on personal growth. It is usually just another day for me. I say this but it is a convenient measure of time for starting life changes. I quit drinking 4 years ago on new years day. I started this blog last year January and I most likely also started writing a journal in january the year before that. This year I committed to moving away from social media and being more purposeful with my time.

As I lay awake at around 3am on new years day, head racing with thoughts most of which were "im gonna be so damn tired at work later". I also decided to upgrade my bear blog. Not done that just yet but soon. I wanna move away from instagram as much as possible and use bear as a space to post the occasional picture. This will also work well for any future travels I have planned as I can then have a dedicated travel blog.

I also decide to curb my youtube consumption. I watch a lot of youtube essays on various topics like environment, geopolitics, economics etc. I gotta limit this just for while im studying. Pumping my head full of info is not that great. This will apply to reading also. More easy reading and less deconstructing capitalism and climate science. This is all part of just giving myself some time to relax and process the information im learning.

Another important project will be trying to promote my other blog/newsletter that deals with environmentalism and social science. It's basically just me trying to explain the things im studying. This is to help me get better at researching and then explaining the fairly complex concepts to people who just aren't aware and your crazy uncle at the dinner table. I want to keep it casual but also try get across the seriousness of the precarious situation we find ourselves in with regards to climate change. I guess I should throw a link down here in case someone is interested. It's still early days but I hope to make a post once a month. If the link doesn't work iv put it up on the nav bar thingy. its newsletter

These are a few things I'm starting now as a way to create better habits moving forward. Hopefully by the end of the year they have become habit and have allowed me to engage more positively with the internet and actually benefit from my time online.
